I’m not a big lover of sauces on my food but do occasionally have tomato ketchup. I always stick to Heinz as I have never found anything that really compares and tastes as good.
I was sent a bottle of Real Good Tomato Ketchup for review and to be honest I didn’t really expect much from it. As it claims to have 75% less sugar and 83% less salt, free from artificial flavourings, preservatives and sweeteners than Heinz Tomato Ketchup I expected very little flavour.
With dinner I cooked some chips and tried the RGTK and I was very impressed, so much so, that I prefer the taste of RGTK to my regular Heinz one. It is really tomatoey and sweet and full of flavour. But what do I know as I don’t eat a lot of sauces. So for dinner the next night I tried it with the kids, who also have sauce, and if had their own way would just eat sauce out of the bottle! Well both kids ate it without complaint and used their fingers to mop up any excess. When asked if they liked it they both said yes (as their plates showed).
The Real Good Tomato Ketchup comes in a BPA free, easy to squeeze plastic bottle. It’s made with Mediterranean tomatoes and contains naturally occurring sugars (no refined sugars are added). Very small amounts of Xylitol (from sustainable Birch forests in Scandinavia) and Stevia have been added, these are both sweeteners and Xylitol promotes good dental health.
The RGTK is a healthier alternative to other brands of tomato ketchup as is made from allergen free, plant based ingredients (Tomato Paste (43%), Water, Spirit Vinegar, Sweeteners (Xylitol, Steviol Glycosides), Corn Flour, Salt, Onion, Garlic, Spice). It has quite a lot less sugar and salt than other brands. Is suitable for children, diabetics and vegans and is made in a nut free facility.
We loved this ketchup and prefer it too our normal brand. It has a much better richer and sweeter flavour and you can really taste the tomatoes (and of course with no refined sugars and less salt it is much better for you). The only downside is it is not readily available in all shops (can be bought online from Ocado) and is more expensive than some other brands, but that doesn’t stop me rating it 5 out of 5 as the taste is fantastic.
